Acupuncture for Male Fertility and Sexual Health

Page is under construction – late november 23.

Please note that at Morning Star Acupuncture we don’t give acupuncture or herbal medicine to support IVF and IUI treatment.

At Morning Star Acupuncture we have a systematic approach towards giving herbal medicine or acupuncture for male fertility and sexual health issues. First of all a detailed analysis based upon Chinese Medicine principles is given. This involves taking the client’s pulse, observing their tongue and looking for signals using ear diagnosis and symptoms the client has. Blood pressure is checked as this can let a practitioner know whether the client’s body is weak, normal, or in an overactive state (and helps us understand the nature of any overactive state).

Typical issues a Chinese Medicine practitioner would detect involve blood stasis – like varicose veins, local water retention, excess heat, lack of heat and poor circulation. There can be problems with the thyroid, hypothalamus or pituitary glands and general imbalance around the body. All of these issues can interfere with the production and expression of healthy sperm, cause pain and lead to other sexual health issues.

Then, acupuncture points, and/or herbal medicine, are chosen according to findings from the diagnosis. Some acupuncture points and herbs clear heat, some clear water retention, some move blood to improve circulation and treat varicose veins. Combinations of acupuncture points or herbs can deal with imbalances around the body, helping bring about a balanced system that is the basis for healthy sperm production and balanced male sexual health.

Often during discussions with a client we will discover unprocessed emotional issues are playing a major part in the condition. At Morning Star Acupuncture, we find that in order to get the best results from acupuncture for male fertility or sexual health, some of these issues may need to be looked at, through acupuncture, or discussion.

After the first session, and through the treatment period, the pulse and tongue are checked at most sessions to see what changes have happened and to allow alterations to be made to the treatment protocol, or points/herbs chosen. In this manner we work gradually to promote proper function, clear over-activity, nourish weaknesses, remove cysts and masses and promote circulation and balance. It is most likely that treatment will be required for a number of months in order to allow the systems that contribute to a healthy male reproductive system come into balance.

Typical issues treated by Chinese Medicine for male fertility include erectile dysfunction, libido, low sperm count, poor motility, poor morphology, cysts, and varicocele. There may also be other issues that Chinese medicine can help. There are numerous sexual health issues that can be helped by acupuncture, including pain, itching, various kinds of dysfunction, difficulty ejaculating, premature ejaculation etc.
